Our Story
Mass Relevance. The name of our company is our mission…to get relevance from the masses and bring it back out to the masses.
The story of this company is a story of stars aligning. A story of the right team coming together at the right time with similar ideas to solve a growing need in the market.
In April 2009, three entrepreneurial Austin developers – Barry Cox, Brian Dainton and Eric Falcao – started working on a product they called TweetRiver. They met every Tuesday in East Austin coffee shops after their day jobs, diligently designing and coding the deepest and most flexible real time social media curation platform in the market.
During this time they got to know Sam Decker, a veteran in digital marketing, word of mouth, and user generated content. Sam previously grew Dell.com (consumer) to $3.5B and was founding CMO at Bazaarvoice, the leader in social commerce. He was exploring a thesis for his next venture, after his resignation from Bazaarvoice. Sam was zeroing in on the exponential growth of user generated content and real time social media, the fragmentation of consumer attention across displays, and the opportunity to help companies make the most of both trends. He started hanging out with them on Tuesday nights.
As the teams spent more time together, it became apparent they had the right combination of ideas, product, talent, and timing to form a company. They named it Mass Relevance, starting with TweetRiver as the foundation for their enterprise-class platform of social curation. Sam, Brian, and Eric would be co-founders of this new venture, and Barry would remain a strategic advisor.
Mass Relevance serves entertainment, media, retail, and manufacturers. Today the company gets recognition from clients such as NBC Sports, Cisco, Samsung, Xbox, and others. Twitter points brands to TweetRiver as a preferred enterprise real time social media curation platform. The Mass Relevance team has added a set of services and custom technology around this platform, and have architected a roadmap for the future of social curation.
The mission of Mass Relevance is to help clients find relevance from the masses and bring it back out to the masses through technology, service and expertise in real time social media curation. Their goal is to create engagement that leads to real business results – such as time on site, page views, ad views, traffic, and conversion. This is accomplished through advanced sourcing, curation, display, and participation capabilities around social content.
Today, they are building a talented team of social marketing experts and developers to help as clients keep pace with a fast-moving market. All the while, the team will continue to meet Tuesday nights in coffee shops around Austin. If you pay attention to their Tweets, perhaps you will find out where. @samdecker, @bdainton, @efalcao, @massrelevance
